New airport providing a boost to Branson
The tourist town of Branson, Mo., is ready to take off even further as the new Branson Airport is set to open in May, upgrading the traditional rubber tire operation to an affordable, jet-setting destination.
The Branson Airport, the nation's first privately financed and operated commercial service airport, will open its 7,140-footlong runway on May 11. The $155-million airport could usher in a new era for the town of 7,500 nestled in the Ozarks of southwest Missouri.
In September of last year, officials at the Branson Airport inked their first significant deal, giving an exclusive route to low-fare air carrier AirTran Airways. AirTran will have no competition on the Atlanta-to-Branson route for an undisclosed amount of time.
